Greenville County Council is considering passing a proposed text amendment that would significantly strengthen protections for riparian buffers in Greenville County. This amendment will be brought forth for its third and final reading and public hearing during the next County Council meeting on Tuesday, January 2 at 6pm.
Please attend Tuesday’s County Council meeting and wear BLUE to show Council that you support protections for our waters. The meeting will be held in County Council Chambers at 301 University Ridge, Greenville, 29601. Please arrive before 6pm.
Prior to Tuesday's meeting, we encourage you to call or email your council member to ask them to vote YES to this amendment and support the adoption of stronger county-wide buffer requirements to protect our River. Riparian buffers are the areas of vegetation that border streams, lakes, and wetlands. Buffers serve a critical role in protecting streambanks and water quality by reducing streambank erosion and river sedimentation, serving as a natural filter for stormwater runoff, and many other benefits. They are the most cost-effective way to protect our streams and wetlands.
